Research Trends and Hotspots of Internet Hospitals: A Bibliometric Study

Abstract

To analyze the development trajectory and frontier trends of Internet hospitals globally through bibliometric analysis. Methods Relevant literature from the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) and Web of Science Core Collection databases (up to March 2025) was retrieved. CiteSpace and Tableau were employed for visualizing author-institution collaboration networks, keyword co-occurrence clustering, and burst detection. Results A total of 649 articles were included. Domestic research was led by core authors such as Guangjun Yu and  Yongkang Wu, with institutions like Huazhong University of Science and Technology as key contributors. Overall, the literature centers on platform construction, operational management, user service optimization, and regulatory mechanisms. The evolution of research themes demonstrates a progression from construction pathways to service models, quality optimization and intelligent transformation.  Conclusion Internet hospitals are transitioning from the exploratory phase to a stage of systematic and intelligent development. Advancing their high-quality development will require integrated efforts in theoretical construction, methodological innovation and institutional system design.
