The marine diesel engine course is a highly theoretical subject with complex and diverse systems, requiring extensive practical training. In response to the existing issues in the current teaching process of marine diesel engine courses, this paper proposes an innovative approach to reform by applying the heuristic inquiry-based teaching method to marine diesel engine courses. Practice has shown that this teaching method has the advantages of stimulating learning enthusiasm, strengthening theoretical understanding, cultivating comprehensive literacy, and aligning with training objectives. It has important practical significance for improving students' professional literacy and cultivating high-quality talents that meet the needs of the times.
